The Aztec Hotel is probably the crown jewel of Route 66 in Los Angeles County. It's current owner, Kathie Reece-McNeil, has done an outstanding job thus far in her restoration and preservation efforts.

But the Aztec is just one of many key "ingredients" to a Route 66 experience in Southern California. In addition to the Aztec, there are 33 other National Register of Historic Places landmarks on 66 in LA County. The only vehicular tunnels ever to be a part of 66 are in LA, and the oldest still-in-use bridge along 66 is in LA County.

And there are plenty of other landmarks / intriguing facts about 66 in LA to be explored. I hope that you get the chance to look at many more of these.

I've lived in Monrovia for 12 years and appreciate the Aztec. Huell Howser recently did a show on Rte. 66 and included a nice bit on the Aztec.
